On November 6, 2013, the U.S. International Trade Commission issued a press release announcing their vote to institute an investigation of Certain Marine Sonar Imaging Devices, Products Containing the Same, and Components Thereof (Inv. No. 337-TA-898).

The investigation is based on a September 20, 2013 complaint filed by Navico, Inc. of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Navico Holding AS of Norway alleging violation of Section 337 in the importation into the U.S. and sale of certain marine sonar imaging devices, products containing the same, and components thereof that infringe one or more claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 8,305,840 and 8,300,499.  See our September 24, 2013 post for more details on the complaint.

According to the Notice of Investigation, the Commission has identified Raymarine, Inc. of Nashua, New Hampshire, Raymarine UK Ltd. of the United Kingdom, and In-Tech Electronics Ltd. of Hong Kong as the respondents in this investigation.

The Notice of Investigation further indicates that the Office of Unfair Import Investigations will not participate as a party in this investigation.

Lastly, Chief ALJ Charles E. Bullock issued a notice indicating that Theodore R. Essex will be the presiding Administrative Law Judge in this investigation.
