On August 8, 2011, the U.S. International Trade Commission issued a press release announcing that it voted to institute an investigation of Certain Portable Electronic Devices And Related Software (Inv. No. 337-TA-797).

The investigation is based on a July 8, 2011 complaint and August 3, 2011 supplement to the complaint filed by Apple Inc. of Cupertino, California alleging violation of Section 337 in the importation into the U.S. and sale of certain portable electronic devices and related software that infringe certain claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 7,844,915, 7,469,381, 7,084,859, 7,920,129, and 6,956,564 .  See our July 11, 2011 post for more details.

According to the Notice of Investigation, the ITC has identified HTC Corp. of Taiwan, HTC America, Inc. of Bellevue, Washington, and Exedea, Inc. of Houston, Texas as the respondents in this investigation.

In addition, acting Chief ALJ Charles E. Bullock issued a notice indicating that E. James Gildea will be the presiding Administrative Law Judge in this investigation.
