On December 12, 2017, Chief ALJ Charles E. Bullock issued Order No. 5 in Certain Wafer-Level Packaging Semiconductor Devices and Products Containing Same (Including Cellular Telephones, Tablets, Laptops, and Notebooks) and Components Thereof (Inv. No. 337-TA-1080).

By way of background, this investigation is based on a September 28, 2017 complaint filed by Tessera Advanced Technologies, Inc. alleging violation of Section 337 by way of unlawful importation into the U.S., selling for importation, and/or selling within the U.S. after importation certain wafer-level packaging semiconductor devices and products containing same (including cellular telephones, tablets, laptops, and notebooks) and components thereof that infringe one or more claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 6,784,557 and 6,954,001. According to the Order, ALJ Bullock set the procedural schedule for this investigation. Specifically, ALJ Bullock determined, inter alia, that the Markman hearing will take place on March 20, 2018; the evidentiary hearing will take place on July 30-August 3, 2018; the initial determination on violation will be due on November 2, 2018; and the target date for completing this investigation shall be March 3, 2019.
